Spring is fast approaching, and one of the things that many people look forward to during that time is spring cleaning. The warmer weather gets people out of the house and ready to help donate gently used items to local charity organizations.

But what exactly can you donate to charity when you clean out your closets? One of the most versatile things to donate are garments — especially children in need clothing donations. For children in need clothing donations are absolutely vital, especially for those in families that are often unable to keep up with buying new clothing for a growing child.

If you have clothing that your children have grown out of, consider donating it to charity. Clothing for any season is accepted by most clothing donation pick up and drop off services, including:

  • Winter Clothing: If your children have already grown out of their latest winter clothes, now is a great time to give them to charity. Any gently used coats, sweaters, snowsuits, and other warm clothing can be given to charity. Outerwear, including boots, hats, mittens, scarves, and more, is also perfect for donating to area programs that give children in need clothing.
  • Spring and Autumn Clothes: The seasons between summer and winter are often difficult to dress for given the fluctuations in temperature. Garments such as light jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts, jeans, and other clothes are all appropriate to give during any season. Because of the religious holidays that take place during these seasons, families might also be on the lookout for special occasion clothing for Easter, Passover, christenings, and other celebrations, so be sure to donate any formal outfits that your children can no longer wear.
  • Summer Outfits: Summertime is a season when children go outside to play the most. As a result, they need clothing that can help them beat the heat but also allow them to stay active in. Shorts, t-shirts, sundresses, and other casual outfits are excellent to donate now because they will be needed very soon.
