Outside of work, school, or any other planned activities, around 36% of people spend five to eight waking hours inside of their homes each day. Another 26% spend anywhere from nine to 12 hours at home everyday. With all of this time available, it’s important to make sure that you’re enjoying your surroundings.
Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Only about 20% of Americans report feeling happy when around their home decor, while 14% said that their home furnishings actually make them feel gloomy and stress — the exact opposite of what they should be doing. Some people may just not be aware of their personal tastes and have been buying the wrong decorations for years. Between seasonal, personal, or specific types like nautical home decor, there are numerous styles to choose from that match one’s personality.
One way to figure out what matches your style, is to look at where the most content people spend their time. Just in 2010 there were over 123 million people — 39% of the United States population — who lived in some area located in a coastal shoreline county. This is not to say that people who live near the ocean are always happier, but there must be something that draws people to live there and even vacation there.
