Many advertisements will tell you that you must change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. However, what you should actually be referencing is your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Some vehicles can go as long as 10,000 miles without needing an oil change!

Another oil-related myth is the belief that more expensive oil means better performance for your car. Again, you should always fill your car with the type of oil specified by your owner’s manual. Top-shelf oil doesn’t necessarily equal big performance gains.

Tires also have their share of myths. One commonly-held belief is that the required air pressure is written on the tire. However, the number printed on your tire indicates the maximum pressure your tire will hold, not the ideal pressure. You can usually find this printed on a sticker in your door jamb.

These are just a few of the myths many drivers believe. However, they couldn’t be further from the truth. Save yourself time and money and educate yourself about your vehicle so you can avoid these silly myths.
