Two of the most common options for roofing today are metal panels and asphalt shingles. They both come with their own advantages and disadvantages, and they will work for different homes and businesses based on the person’s needs and budgets. This article will outline some of the key differences.

The first difference is durability. Asphalt is the most popular roofing material in the country, and for good reason. It’s a tough material that can hold up for 15-25 years when properly maintained. However, it doesn’t stack up as well against metal roofing.

Metal roofing is much stronger and less likely to be damaged by strong winds, rains, snow, etc. It’s about as vulnerable to denting from hail as asphalt roofs. It also lasts much longer than asphalt roofing; people who install asphalt roofing won’t need to worry about replacing it for up to 50 years.

The biggest drawback to metal roofing is the cost. It can cost double or more than asphalt shingle roofing. Asphalt roofing is the most affordable roofing material in the country, adding to its popularity. It does require more maintenance costs, so metal roofs can recoup costs by saving money in that area.
