Wondering When to Donate Clothes? Here’s Why Every Season is an Appropriate Time to Give

Veterans clothing donations

Every year in the United States, over two millions of tons of clothing are donated or recycled in order to help others on the planet. However, not everyone is donating clothing to charity, and instead they send an estimated 12 to 13 million tons of clothing and textiles to the landfill.

Much of this waste stems from a very basic problem, as many people wonder when to donate clothes to charity during the year. If you are one of the people struggling with this issue, there is good news: any time of the year is a great time to donate clothing to charity.

Wondering why and when to donate clothes each year? Check out why it’s great to donate all four seasons of the year!

Why Donate Clothes in the Fall?
Autumn is known for one big thing: back to school season! This is a great time to donate clothing that your children have grown out of, so kids in need of new outfits for school can benefit from your donations.

Why Donate Clothes in the Winter?
Once the cold starts to set in, many adults and children may not have the right protection from the elements. If you have gently used clothing donations of coats, hats, scarves, or gloves, be sure to give what you can. Shelters are especially in need of these materials.

Why Donate Clothes in the Spring?
With the budding flowers and April showers often comes the need to clear out the old to make room for the new. When you do your spring cleaning, you’ll likely come across items you no longer need — so why not give them to charity?

Why Donate Clothes in the Summer?
Summer is another great time to donate because you can assess what you need for the season and what you don’t. And if you didn’t get to your spring cleaning on time, summer is the perfect occasion to get caught up.

Donating clothing to charity helps keep those items out of the landfill. What doesn’t get used by your fellow men, women, and children gets turned over to thrift stores, which help benefit charities. Some clothing also gets recycled, so we can reuse what we’ve already created.
