Downtown apartments are perfect for college students. They’re close to the action, and they’re way better to live in than those cramped, worn down dorms. However, paying rent can be a big problem when you’re in college. Though student loans usually cover the majority of the rent, going to school full time doesn’t leave much room for a part time job that could help cover living expenses.
Thankfully, there are tons of ways that students could save money so that they can afford rental apartments.

Search Everywhere.

With the raw power of the Internet at your fingertips, it’s easier than ever to find a plethora of vacant apartments. All you have to do is search “downtown apartments for rent” and et voila. That being said, don’t limit your search to the web. Ask around to friends in the area. Talk to small business owners. Look at bulletin boards. If you’re willing to get out and network, you’ll find even more available apartments.

Be Selective About Your Location.

Apartments that are closest to the action are naturally going to be the most expensive because they’re in the highest demand. While that might sound like a bummer, you can use this to your advantage, because on the flip side, it means that the apartments a little further away are going to cost less. If you’re willing to live within walking distance or even a short driving distance away, you’ll find several more affordable apartments.

Get a Longer Lease.

The longer the lease, the less expensive rent will be month from month because you’ll be locked into a lower rate. That being said, you’ll also be locked into that apartment for longer, which is why many people prefer not to sign such leases. However, if you’re not a senior or you plan on sticking around once you graduate, this is an option you should definitely consider.

These are just a few of the ways you can find more affordable apartments when you’re in college. If you have any questions or other tips, feel free to leave them in the comments. More.
