How to Read and Understand Hebrew

However, Messianic studies, which is the study of Scripture, relies on the ability to read Hebrew. By learning about Hebrew and how to read it, you will be able to understand the Hebrew Roots movement more clearly.

1. What is Hebrew? When you learn about Hebrew language, one of the most important things to discover is the history of Hebrew. Hebrew used to be the language of all Hebrew and Israeli people, but it ceased to be a common language around 200 C.E. However, the language was revived in the 19th century, and it is now the language of approximately 9 million people worldwide. Modern Hebrew is slightly different from Biblical Hebrew, though, so when many people learn about Hebrew, they are often taught about Biblical Hebrew so that they are able to read Scripture more successfully.

2. How to read Hebrew. When learning about Hebrew, one of the most important things to do is learn all the letters. Being able to recognize the letters will help you when you are reading Scripture, and this will allow you to understand it more clearly. Additionally, you should also learn how to properly pronounce Hebrew letters so that you are able to read Hebrew text out loud. By following these steps, Hebrew will become a second language to you.

In order to understand and participate in the Hebrew Roots movement properly, it is important to learn about Hebrew. Not only should you study the history of Hebrew, but you should also learn how to read Hebrew text, as well. By doing so, you will be able to successfully read and understand Scripture written in Hebrew.
