According to the Telegraph, a new smart lightbulb may be the solution for many of our sleeping problems. The issues with people watching and using their smartphones, televisions and tablets has been well documented — bright LED screens essentially tell your body that it?s ?still daytime? and can lead to restless nights. Phillips, consequently, has designed internet-connected Hue lightbulbs that can emit different shades of white light depending on the time of day.

New Bulbs Could Improve Sleep Quality

These ?white ambiance? lightbulbs, as Phillips is calling them, can be controlled either by a switch or by your smartphone. ?Light impacts us both physically and emotionally, we experience this every day when waking up and going to sleep,? noted Phillip?s head of home lighting, Chris Worp. These new bulbs can help sleep by gradually brightening or getting dimmer. Users will not experience the suppression of melatonin that happens with the unnatural levels of blue light coming from LED screens.

Of course, light is not the only factor impacting sleep. A recent study from the Centers for Disease Control found that about 35% of people regularly get less than seven hours of sleep at night.
