What you’ll need
You’ll need gloves, a vacuum, a brush, a furnace filter, and a screwdriver/nut driver. Before starting any work on the furnace, make sure to turn off the power and close the gas valve.
Step 1: Replace the furnace.
A furnace filter must be replaced every 3 to 6 months. Remove the filter and either clean the filter or replace it depending on the manual instructions./p>
Step 2: Clean and Inspect.
Remove the top cover panel and use a vacuum to clean the inside. If you notice a crack or flaw in the heat exchanger, make sure to call a professional. Call a professional if you see any scorch marks or burnt wires on the burner assembly as well.
Step 3: Clean the Blower.
First, remove the blower panel cover. If the control board is in front of the blower, remove it after disconnecting each of the wires. Remove the blower, then clean it with a brush and vacuum. Reinsert the blower, reinsert the control board and place the panel cover back on.
Step 4: Reconnect the furnace.
Make sure the panel is fully aligned and properly secured. Open the gas valve and turn on the power to the furnace.
