There are many kinds of heroes in our society today. While they may not wear a cape or a mask, many can be found dressed in uniform and serving in our U.S. military. For all that our service men and women do for us, you may find it surprising how many military families struggle to make ends meet. In fact, as the nation is faced with high unemployment, the unemployment rate for veterans is actually 2% above the national average for regular citizens. In addition, an estimated 27% of U.S. military families have over $10,000 in credit card debt. As you can see, the men and women who serve and have served in our military both deserve and need our support.
So, how can you do your part?
If you are moved by these statistics and are interested in helping military families, here are a few ways you can provide your support:
1. Clothing Donations
Military donations can certainly be in the form of gently used clothing. Your unwanted/unneeded clothing can be resold to raise money for families in need. If you don’t think anyone would be interested in purchasing your old clothing, think again! On average, an American purchases about 10 pounds of used clothing each year.
2. Cash Donations
Making a cash donation to an organization that provides help to military families is a great idea, especially if you find yourself short on time and with some extra income that you would like to go to a good cause. Military donations in cash can help our military families who are faced with unemployment.
3. Donation Pick Up
If you would like to make military donations of gently used clothing and/or household items but are unable to bring them to a donation facility, you will find that there are many organizations that pick up donations from your home. Don’t let a lack of time or a proper vehicle stop you from making a charitable donation to help our military families, call to schedule a pick up!
As you can see, there are so many ways you can support our veterans and military families. They are some of the many heroes in our country that make this nation strong and when we all help each other, our nation becomes even stronger for it.
