The main concern for new parents is sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) which can occur if the baby is sleeping in an unsafe bed. Luckily, there are only a few things you need to prevent this tragedy.
First, get a firm mattress with a waterproof cover. Make sure it’s completely flat with no raised or cushioned sides. Firmly tuck your child in at night to keep them secure, and remove any stuffed animals from the bed.
Do not use a pillow or anything bulky. These items have been shown to increase the probability of SIDS by nearly 3 times. Also, do not use pods or nests because these can increase the temperature of the baby’s head and increase the risk of SIDS.
