Donating clothing to charity

Have you thought about what you can do to be a part of helping military families in the United States? There are thousands of military families in our country right now who are struggling financially through no fault of their own. Many of our veterans have a hard time finding work when they return home from deployment. If you want to be a part of helping military families here’s a few ways to do it:

1. Donate Your Clothes – Did you know that Americans send over 10 million tons of clothing to landfills every year, yet we only donate 15% of our used clothing? We can probably all agree that those numbers are a bit startling. Clothing donations for veterans are incredibly important especially during the winter for those who live in colder climates. If you aren’t sure where to take your local clothing donations you may want to check with your local VA organization so that they can point you in the right direction.

2. Monetary Donations To Charity Organizations – Maybe you cleaned out all of your closets recently or already have an organization that you donate used clothing to, but you still want to help military families – that’s great! There are some incredible charities for wounded soldiers, unemployed veterans, and families of currently deployed soldiers that are always willing to take monetary donations of any size. It may sound cliche, but every little bit counts!

3. Share With Friends And Family – It may surprise you, but studies show that 70% of all social media users take some kind of action in response to a friend posting a story about making a recent charitable donation. What that means for you is that even if you can’t donate clothing or give money right now, you can share with friends and family about the importance of helping military families in America. Words are powerful, and you’ll be surprised and what a difference your story can make.

We will never be able to fully thank the brave men and women who serve in America’s armed forces, but we ought to do our part to make sure they and their families are taking care of. Donating your used clothing, making monetary donations to charity organizations and sharing with friends and family are just a few of the ways that you can help. Start looking for veterans charities in your area today and plan to give back this holiday season. You’ll be glad you did.
